Spent most of yesterday at the hospital, waiting; waiting to be seen at the ER, waiting to be seen by doctors, waiting for my prescriptions to be ready. The doctors think I have a compressed disk in my spine, and given how goddamn much it's hurt since mid-afternoon on Monday, I'm inclined to agree. :/ I won't know for sure till I see a primary care doctor and hopefully get X-rayed and/or MRI'd, but I've got an appointment set for Thursday, so here's hoping. [crosses fingers] In the meantime I've got lots of pain medication, at least. And
music_enforcer and
lunapome were so lovely, driving me to and from the hospital, keeping me company in the waiting room; and
zinjadu came and kept me company when I came home and was completely wiped out, and when I woke up at 2:30 AM after 6 hours sleep I was able to hang out with
wonderseal and
laserdragon and
achtung_baby cos they were still up. I have such awesome friends, you guys. ;___;
And now, since I expect to be wired for at least a little while longer, a meme! (My choices are somewhat limited because most of my books are out in the living room where people are sleeping, but oh well.)

BOOK ONE
- He was facing Seventh Avenue, at Times Square.
- Rufus thought, But it's not possible to forget anybody you were that hung up on, who was that hung up on you.
-"How did he look?"
-"He always looks that way."
-Then even his luggage belonged to him again, and he strode through the barriers, more high-hearted than he had ever been as a child, into that city which the people from heaven had made their home.
BOOK TWO
-King Gylfi was ruler in what is now called Sweden.
-Then Hermod rode back on his way and came to Asgard and told all the tidings he had seen and heard.
-Hreidmar took the otter-skin and announced to them that they were to fill the skin with red gold and then cover it entirely, and these were to be the terms of their settlement.
-Men who assess people's cases are called virdar [virda = to assess].
-May earth, stone-supported, first sink into the sea before the ruler's praise [cease].
BOOK THREE
-Will tugged at his mother's hand and said, "Come on, come on..."
-What with the bruise on her cheek where he'd struck her the night before, she looked as if she'd been badly treated, and that worried him too—suppose some police officer should become curious?
-"I'm not a learned man, you can see that plain enough."
-"My respects to you and your tribe," Lee said.
-And Will looked from them to Lyra's rucksack and back again, and he didn't hear a word they said.
BOOK FOUR
-It began, as many things do, in a tavern: about eight o'clock on a Friday evening, in The Pot of Gold on Post-Hoc Lane in Simka.
-"If not there, to Professor Khan's room."
-As for Myoko, she did look tiny, even on the school's smallest quarter-horse, but she never had trouble controlling the animals she rode.
-As the duplicate had died, the real Dreamsinger had said, "I envy you."
-Laughing, Annah and I kissed . . . but I hoped we'd never be done with it, ever.
BOOK FIVE
-Almost everyone thought the man and the boy were father and son.
-Larry McLeod turned around and went straight back to town.
-Bonnie giggled and opened her arms.
-"Left the oil out of her one mornin' and burned the goddamn pistons right out of her."
-In the small clearing overlooking the power lines, the fire in the brush began to burn more strongly, urged by the autumn wind that blew from the west.
